SUNDAY NIGHT with Michael Williams Presents a live, acoustic event featuring recording artists Jeff Jones and Tony Springer, Sunday April 10, 2016 at Taste of Columbia’s El Salon.
At the tender age of sixteen, Chicago-born Jeff Jones made his debut in the rock world as the bassist and singer in the band Ocean, recording the hit “Put Your Hand In The Hand”. Unknown to many, Jones was in the first incantation of Rush as the lead singer and bassist prior to Geddy Lee joining the group. Jones currently tours with Red Rider and Tom Cochrane, (Jones is one of the original members of Red Rider), and The Carpet Frogs, the latter known as “the best band you don’t know”, famous for their work with Burton Cummings and Randy Bachman. During his 40-year career Jones has also performed with the funk/rock band Infidels (Molly Johnson), Ronnie Hawkins and Lawrence Gowan.
Born and raised in Trinidad and Tobago, Tony Springer started out his musical career performing in reggae and calypso bands. After moving to Canada and making Toronto his home, Springer began playing in local clubs in a Jimi Hendrix tribute band. He joined Rough Trade in 1986 and later formed his own band Wild T and the Spirit. Springer was also a guest guitarist on David Bowie’s Black Tie White Noise album
Michael Williams Presents SUNDAY NIGHT is a series of twice monthly live events featuring both international and local artists performing an intimate, informal show at Taste of Colombia’s El Salon. The evening is hosted by former MuchMusic VJ Michael Williams whose lifelong passion for music has provided him many roles as producer, journalist, musician, media personality and educator. “I have always wanted a platform to present intimate shows…and have found the perfect venue in El Salon. The plan is to bring the best artists I know and pair them up with up and coming local artists.”
